The building was constructed in 1910 according to the design by the architect Alexander Ozerov. The builder was Mikael Aramyants, a successful sugar and cotton businessman who also owned lands, estates, cottages, and resorts. His name is mainly associated with the now Tbilisi Marriott Hotel, formerly known as Hotel Majestic in memory of his ship. It is amazing to learn that Mikael was the first to build a modern hospital and introduce X-Ray technology to Georgia

𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 :

Mikael Aramyants (1843–1923) was a prominent Armenian oil magnate, industrialist, financier, and philanthropist who significantly influenced the development of Tbilisi (formerly Tiflis) in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in Kyatuk, Artsakh (present-day Nagorno-Karabakh), Aramyants moved to Tbilisi, where he amassed wealth through ventures in sugar, cotton, and oil industries.

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐢 :
Healthcare: Aramyants founded the Aramiants Hospital, now known as Clinical Hospital No. 1. He equipped it with advanced medical apparatus of the time, including the first X-ray machine in Tbilisi, enhancing the city’s medical infrastructure.

𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲:
He commissioned the construction of the Majestic Hotel on Golovin Avenue (now Rustaveli Avenue), which is currently the Tbilisi Marriott Hotel. Designed by architect Gabriel Ter-Mikelov, the hotel was completed in 1915 and stands as a testament to early 20th-century luxury in Tbilisi.

𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐲:
Aramyants was a permanent sponsor of the Armenian Nersisian School in Tiflis and contributed to various charitable causes, including the establishment of shelters for refugees from Western Armenia.

𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲:
Despite his substantial contributions, Aramyants’s fortunes declined after the Bolsheviks came to power. He lost most of his wealth and died in poverty in the basement of his own hotel in Tbilisi. Nevertheless, his legacy endures through the institutions he established and the architectural landmarks he commissioned.

For more detailed information on Mikael Aramyants’s life and contributions, you can refer to his Wikipedia page: Mikael Aramyants – Wikipedia.

If you’re interested in exploring his legacy further, consider visiting the Tbilisi Marriott Hotel and Clinical Hospital No. 1, both of which are enduring symbols of his impact on the city.
