The building was constructed in 1910 according to the design by the architect Alexander Ozerov. The builder was Mikael Aramyants, a successful sugar and cotton businessman who also owned lands, estates, cottages, and resorts. His name is mainly associated with the now Tbilisi Marriott Hotel, formerly known as Hotel Majestic in memory of his ship. It is amazing to learn that Mikael was the first to build a modern hospital and introduce X-Ray technology to Georgia

Despite his substantial contributions, Aramyants’s fortunes declined after the Bolsheviks came to power. He lost most of his wealth and died in poverty in the basement of his own hotel in Tbilisi.
